Biodiversity: nature is our living environment, a long period of separation between nature and mankind finally comes to an end!
The current crisis in the construction business offers us a beautiful chance for reflection on the unsustainable way in which we deal with our environment. The construction is a very anthropocentric targeted activity. We spend large amounts of money on building ‘nests’ for humans. We forget to create nesting space for animals. If we want to continue our existence on the Earth we will have to kill less and live more with nature and all this in the near future. The time has come to start dealing with our environment in a nature inclusive way. It is time start building for man and nature.
On the basis of research results we have set up a program of requirements for animals. And we have launched Sharing Shelter. We will leave two decades of large building flows behind us. We will go forward with a period of transformation, compactness and shrinkage. Development has become more small scaled and construction is more careful. The developer is far more often a person instead of an Institute. We see potential for nature-inclusive development in the transformation areas. Interesting locations for us are the Cruquiusgebied in Amsterdam, the Merwedegebied in Utrecht and the Binckhorst in the Hague. In the Cruquiusweggebied we have taken the initiative to make room for our nature-inclusive attitude.
