Nesteljas (‘nesting coat’), developed by Maike van Stiphout and Monica Ketting (Buro Ketting), are house facades with an integrated capacity to accommodate birds.
In these nesting houses you live together with sparrows, blue tits and beautiful owls. Hedgehogs find their home there too. Rabbit and chickens everything under one roof.
Initially applied in the plan of ‘Weilandwonen’ by architects HENK and B+B agency, nesteljas provides maximum opportunity for interaction between people and nature. For more information on ‘Weilandwonen’ download the pdf published by HENK and B+B.
The PVE – List of technical requirements of the nesteljas
Biodiversity: Our surrounding nature requires us to bring the long period of estrangement between man and wildlife to an end.
DS visualised the requirements on the living conditions for the most common species of birds in the Netherlands, including the necessary technical preconditions for nesting in and around buildings. As a man has a list of demands, so does an owl. With this illustrated document, we hope to lower the threshold for developers and architects in building for both – humans and animals.
