Team DS Landscape Architects – Mecanoo – Royal Haskoning, are designing the new building and outdoor area for Eurojust.
In the final stage of the competition, only four teams qualified. The design proposals were judged on the following aspects: architectural quality, urban integration and landscape design, functionality and list of requirements , maintenance and sustainability, and integrated design process. DS-Mecanoo-Haskoning have met these requirements with the best standard. The jury, consisting of representatives of the Ministry of Security and Justice, Eurojust, municipality of the city of Hague and the Government Buildings Agency, have announced the winner on the 20th of March 2012 at a meeting chaired by the Chief Government Architect (Rijksbouwmeester).
The jury decided that the design proposal by DS-Mecanoo-Haskoning had the best vision on the above aspects and most suited the new location of Eurojust. Jan Wilem Friso Avenue, situated in the heartland of the International Zone, was set as the new location of Eurojust. One of the main design requirements was the building to fit in with its surroundings and provide an outdoor area with plenty of green spaces.
