The municipality of Leidschendam is developing the Klein Plaspoelpolder neighborhood on the site of a former industrial site and municipal yard. The design team consists of designers from the municipality, Bonnie Schopard – Inland Landscape and DS.
We made the master plan and the development into the VO design plan for the public space. There was frequent coordination between the construction projects already underway and the design of the ground level versus that of the private outdoor spaces to create a nature-inclusive residential environment with good spatial quality.
In this plan, we opted for the first time to create a common planting list, for both the public space and private roof gardens. The common planting list provides a larger and more robust habitat for urban wildlife than if the list were limited to the public space domain.
The district lies on the Vliet, and was formerly a country estate. In three east-west axes, the district is connected to it and anchored with a special destination on the walking route along the Vliet: teahouse, little harbor, crane.
The rainwater from the buildings and paving is collected with wadis in the public space and drained to the Vliet and to the Zandsloot.
