Utrecht is going to be different! The city is becoming greener and has a solid urbanization challenge. Cyclists and pedestrians will be given free rein, streets will get a different function and squares will become real green meeting places again. Location Station Krommerijn goes one step further! This hypothetical station is located on the A27 near Lunetten and Koningsweg and as far as we are concerned it will be a gateway to the landscape.
Station Krommerijn is a pamphlet for a new but necessary approach: the landscape system gives direction to the layout of the area, urbanization follows. The basis of this system is the Kromme Rijn. This landscape establishes connections with the countryside and the inner city, connections in time – the historic water line – and reconnects man with nature.
Station Krommerijn is the joint outcome of multiple sessions within the What If/What Now! program with a wide range of professionals and stakeholders, led by landscape architect Maike van Stiphout/DS and two urban planners Esther Vlaswinkel/SVP and Joram van Otterloo/IMOSS. In this picture of the future, we show how the landscape system shapes urbanization.
