The Goorloop connects the southern and northern landscapes of the city of Helmond. The river design reconnects everything. The redesign of the Goorloop valley is inspired by the famous countryside of Brabant. The main characteristic of this landscape is the large number of rows of alder trees. Remnants of these are still visible in the valley of Goorloop. The alder rows are the main tools with which the landscape is shaped.
The valley of the Goorloop is a robust ecological, hydrological and recreational connector of landscape and city. The hard edge between urban and rural is softened, the valley is moving into the city and the city turns towards the valley. The atmosphere in the valley is largely defined by the scenic quality of its edges. Not only do the edges provide continuity of the valley, they also link the city and the countryside.
