The new business park in Engelenburg-Noord is an example of a nature-rich and sustainable business park.
Objective
The municipality of Voorst, in collaboration with the business community, aims for high-quality and well-integrated business parks. DS designed the expansion of the Engelenburg business park in Twello for the municipality. The road profiles, residential areas, and surrounding tree rows will eventually be extended into the older business park.
Design
The old business park consists of plots that extend right up to the road, resulting in fences lining the streets and industrial buildings interrupting the scenic landscape. No space was allocated for greenery, water is not retained, and the areas are largely paved. This creates a stark contrast with the surrounding countryside, where manor houses are nestled in leafy park woodlands.
The new section provides more space for landscaping by integrating facilities collectively. Water is directed to the back of the plot, towards the tree rows. A walking path runs through these rows, perfect for a lunchtime stroll. These tree rows provide serene edges for nature and a pleasant barrier to the surrounding estates. From the tree rows, water is channeled to the newly constructed wetland filtration system located on the northern side. This wetland creates a habitat for insects and amphibians.
