DS has completed and implemented the design for the public space of the The Hague World Forum. The main theme of the whole design is connection. DS created a vibrant dune park that winds its way alongside several important buildings, from the Municipal Museum and the Europol Center to Winston Churchill Plaza. The soft atmosphere created by the dunes seamlessly flows into the more urban environment of the World Forum Plaza. Sand colored materials (natural stone) alternate between rough and highly polished surfaces and refer to the original dune landscape..
DS designed the interior spaces with several qualities in mind. Refinement and sustainability were of very high importance. A delicate softness is present in the flows of the dune landscape, but in contrast a strong, solid stone presence is felt in features such as the plaza of Yugoslavian Tribunal.
The identity of the World Forum is reinforced by a very clear style that traverses all of the design elements of the complex. The signature blue of Berlage, the famous 19th century Dutch architect, is used on all the fence work, the use of specific grasses and dune plants in the planting schemes creates unity, and the hardscape materials are all of naturally colored rough or polished local stones.
