Meander Medical Centre is situated in the green lobe along the river Eem. Together with the embankment, they form an image carrier that cuts deeply into the urban fabric. Building on this site requires an attitude that reflects the present values of its natural and cultural history. The challenge for this project lies in showing the penetration of the landscape into the building and in creating a green setting and human dimension which would improve the overall environment for the patients, visitors and staff of the hospital. The interplay between architecture and landscape has resulted in a close interweaving of the building, its surrounding terrain and the landscape of river Eem.
