Amsterdam Vertical (Sloterdijk plots N1+N3) is the first nature-inclusive building complex in Sloterdijk.
This project was designed with Heijmans vastgoed bv, NL architects, studio Donna van Milligen Bielke, Space encounters and Chris Collaris as architects and DS landscape architects with the Dakdokters. The planting plan is by Fred Booy.
Design
We see the city as a mountain landscape: Sloterdijk is the rock between Brettenzone and Westerpark, precisely as a built environment it can add something to biodiversity, so the new development is not an obstacle but a link.
By coordinating measures in building morphology, architecture and planting choices and management, the building complex is a biotope for lots of urban flora and fauna.
Nature-inclusive Amsterdam Vertical improves the connection between the Bretten zone and Westerpark. This will be done, among other things, by developing a biotope – the Bretten Cloth – for the nightingale on the roofs 5 high. Once the nightingale also establishes itself in the Westerpark, the scheme is successful.
